I've been exploring the benefits of multiple keyword strings. Sometimes these are called long tail keywords. What they are is keywords with adjectives to make them very narrow and specific.
Look at it from the point of view of your potential customer. Suppose you're having a party and you've decided to have a luau theme. First you type in the word party. You get 891 MILLION results. Too many
....Now you type in luau party; you get 4.7 million results. Still too many but you got rid of 886 million websites.
So now you think more specifically about what you're looking for.
You want luau confetti, luau balloons and some leis.
Let's try luau confetti; you get 276 Thousand Results. That definitely narrowed it down, but what you really want is confetti that's shaped like palm trees. What do you type in?
Either palm tree confetti, 81 thousand results
confetti shaped like palm trees 44 thousand results.
bulk palm tree confetti 19 thousand results and
green palm tree confetti bulk 4 thousand results.
We went from 891 million to 4 thousand.
A much more manageable list for both you and the customer.
Whatever you do, experiment with specific keyword phrases. You might find more customers and learn more about your own business at the same time.

How to Submit My Site to Search Engines
There are so many search engines but the big 3 are Google, Yahoo and MSN
Within hours of registering your website you'll get emails from companies promising to submit your site to "hundreds" of search engines. Beware of these and Save yourself some money
You can submit your site yourself absolutely free
There is a commonly held belief that a new website built with a new domain will find itself in the "sandbox" for several months. Maybe, maybe not. Either way you won't be found until you the search engines know about you. Get your URL submitted and write the date on your calendar. This way you can at least get indexed. You do not want to submit more than once a month. The search engines will consider this spamming and will ban you from search results.
So the next question is: How do I submit my website to Google
Simply go to Google's add URL page
I've supplied a link here for you
add your web address, including the http://www.
This is important. HTTP stand for hyper text transfer protocol and simply is the way the search engines see your site. If your http has an s after it, https, it simply means that it is secure or encrypted.
Once you submit you can still continue fine tuning your website. Don't resubmit for at least 30 days.

There are so many others you can link to but starting with the Big 3 is a good way to get your feet wet.

Yahoo Site Explorer
Although I'm a big google fan, I was pretty excited to read about this tool
In your address bar type https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com
If you want to check it out try my site, www.chicoparty.com I think the results will surprise you
This will also work as a link. Once you get there you just put in your website and you'll get some fantastic information. Is it indexed? How many pages do you have? Is it in the Yahoo directory.
As someone fascinated by anything that gives me more information about my website and what I can do to make it more enlightening to me this is a great thing.
It's very new...if you do a search only 45 results come up as of Midnight April 1, 2008
I'd betcha you see thousands by the end of this month.
My advice, get your site explored and indexed by yahoo and,for the time being, free
Test in a blog...Sean...Dan...Bonnie...Did you do it?

How to Get A Website, Step One
The first thing you need to do is come up with a domain name and see if it's available
There are a few registrars out there
Try www.godaddy.com or www.networksolutions.com
For my experiment I went to www.officelive.com
The reason I chose this route is that they offer a free 5 page website.
For this experiment, to see figure out the steps it takes to get to
a good position in the search engines, I decided to try to do it with the least amount of expense.
A free website is as good as it gets.
When I went to www.officelive.com, which is owned by Microsoft, they had a box where I typed in my desired web address, also called a URL.
I tried a couple of variations and chose www.classof2008graduation.com
It was available so...ta da...this is my first step to being a domain search expert.
Tomorrow I'll explore the tools available to getting this website built.

My Search Engine Journey
Today I begin the task of creating a place for myself in Google Search
The website name I'm going to work with is www.classof2008graduation.com
The first thing I'm going to do is see how many pages are indexed
How do I check to see if my webpages are indexed?
After a little research I discovered that all I have to do is go to google and type in
site:www.classof2008graduation.com
I hit return and got the results
It says I have 4 pages indexed. This is good. The site has 5 pages
My next step is to see how Google ranks my page importance
I'll visit each of my pages while using the google tool bar and
look at the page ranking that appears
You can see this as a bar to the right of the google search box
You do need to have the Google Task Bar loaded but it's such a good tool bar that I don't know why you wouldn't
Yikes...I have no page rank at all
Gotta figure out how to fix that. That's tonights goal. Find out how to improve search rank.
